"New Girl" showrunner Liz Meriwether teased what's to come in season 5, particularly about the romantic relationships of major characters.

In the season opener, Hanna Simone's CeCe may not have received her mom's blessing, which she considers really important, but it wouldn't stop her from going through with the wedding.

Meriwether confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the season will feature a wedding. The couple might meet some challenges along the way, such as budget problems since they'll be planning the event by themselves.

However, Meriwether assures that the couple, who had gone through many trials in the past, will exchange their vows eventually.

"The bond that they have with each other is really strong and there's an amazing kind of love that grows between them this year and as they're preparing for the wedding, their relationship is getting deeper," the showrunner told the news outlet.

Aside from CeCe and Schmidt's wedding preparations, things will also be going great for Winston (Lamorne Morris).

Meriwether teased that Winston continues to be unlucky when it comes to finding love. But later on, he will succeed and form a relationship with Aly (Nasim Pedrad).

And then there's the big question for season 5: will Jess and Nick (Jake Johnson) ever get back together?

Meriwether revealed that their relationship will become more complicated as the season progresses.

"They're not on a path to getting back together this season, but they continue to have a very complicated relationship that affects relationships with other people," Meriwether shared. She added that fans may see some developments in Jess and Nick's relationship, but highlighted that the ex-couple won't be back together for this year.

"New Girl" has been experiencing a dip in the TV ratings. A report from Slate mentioned that ever since the show ended the romantic relationships of the major characters, the show has become less interesting.

But at least the show is now moving forward, starting with Schmidt and CeCe's anticipated wedding.

"New Girl" airs every Tuesday, 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
