'NCIS' is another crime drama series that's set to bring fresh episodes this fall and the show is expected to bring major changes especially to its characters.

One in particular is Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), who was seen shot in the finale episode of season 12.

With Gibbs fighting for his life, it will surely stir up the whole Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) team. The premiere episode of season 13, airing Sept. 22, will open with Gibbs seen aboard the Navy hospital ship in critical condition and receiving treatment.

Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and CIA officer Joanna Teague (Mimi Rogers) will be heading to Shanghai to go after the terrorist group known as The Calling.

In an interview with TV Fanatic, showrunner Gary Glasberg hints at what fans should be expecting from the coming season.

Glasberg said that Gibbs will return as a changed man once he heals from his wounds. Since Gibbs won't be in shape to manage the team, that would leave DiNozzo in charge, which will bring some tension between him and Gibbs.

"That's one of the big character arcs that we're going to get into this season. Gibbs and Tony are really going to feel some tension between the two of them," Glasberg revealed in the report.

"NCIS" is also known to scratch out its major characters as the show progresses and one of them that shocked many fans was the exit of Cote de Pablo's character Ziva David.

Ziva played a major role in the series for eight years before she said goodbye in season 11.

Her story was even rushed and this didn't give fans the closure they needed. However, reports stated that de Pablo may return and reprise her character.

In a report from TV Line (via Design&Trend), Weatherly teased about Ziva's return saying, "I have come to understand that there will be, later in the year, some guest stars that will melt the avid 'NCIS' viewer's brain."

With that statement, fans are speculating and hoping that Weatherly was referring to Ziva.

In January, de Pablo expressed her opinion about her character's exit from the show, and she agrees that her storyline was rushed, as TV Line reported.

When asked about the subject of her comeback, de Pablo considers it a possibility.

"Under the right circumstances, I think it could definitely be explored," she said.
