"Mr. Robot" is undeniably a well-received show after having been recently awarded as one of 2015's Best TV Programs of the Year. In addition to that, the show was immediately renewed for another season even before the first season was aired on USA Network.

While fans would love to see Elliot's (Rami Malek) story unfold, they won't be seeing the show reach past season 5, as revealed by series creator, Sam Esmail.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Esmail revealed that he envisions that series to last for up to four or five seasons only and nothing beyond that. "I definitely don't think it's more than five," he confirmed to the news outlet.

He even emphasized that he doesn't want "Mr. Robot" to be just another series that extends to several seasons only for it to get cancelled due to low ratings. The series creator revealed that he already has an ideal ending for the series and is currently building the story to get to that ending.

Of course, fans who get to fall in love with their favorite series characters would not be too thrilled about the news on "Mr. Robot's" future, but that doesn't mean that Esmail will not bring something exciting to all the viewers.

He also mentioned in the same report, "There are going to be other characters and storylines that collide and expand and take us into different paths," which only means that the show is bound to get even more interesting.

As for the protagonist, Elliot, the season is said to show him embarking on a more difficult journey. In an interview with Variety, the 34-year-old Malek shared that Esmail called him to tell him about season 2.

Apart from revealing that season 2 will explore "different periods in Elliot's life," Malek also said that things will be more challenging for him.

Esmail even advised Malek to say something, especially if things already get harder.

"Mr. Robot" season 2 is scheduled to return to USA Network in 2016, but an exact date has yet to be announced.
