MMA Bellator 138: Kimbo Slice proves he still has it vs Ken Shamrock

Age is indeed just a number and though Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock are way past their prime, they showed that they still have that fight left in them, somehow.

The much awaited match which should have taken place way back in 2008 finally happened at Bellator 138, a meeting of MMA protagonists who apparently hate each other.

And as expected, the match didn't take long to decide, seeing Kimbo Slice winning via knockout over a 51-year-old Ken Shamrock of their heavyweight match.

Both Slice and Shamrock haven't fought for the past five years but in the end, it seemed to be about resiliency.

Shamrock went on the offensive, trying to take down his bigger opponent. Shamrock was the aggressor in the early moments of the fight but Slice simply would not tap. And once Shamrock abandoned a rear naked choke, such would be the beginning of the end.

With Slice up and Shamrock waiting for his opponent's next move, a punch to the face ended the night.

John McCarthy stepped in at the 2:22 mark and that was all she wrote. Slice won the highly awaited tiff over Shamrock.

In the end, Shamrock knew his mistake. Releasing his hold cost him dearly and admitted that he wasn't as fast as before scrambling up.

The win was Slice third knockout in his MMA career. His last victory was back in December of 2009 when he won via unanimous decision over Houston Alexander.

For Shamrock, it was his 10 knockout loss. His record now stands at 28-16-2.

Despite the controversies surrounding the match – mostly tied up with the fact that both are way over their prime – it was something critics felt was for the ratings. With a match that was supposed to happen way back in 2008, the only thing that was resolved is on who the better fighter was.

Had the results been different had their original match in 2008 actually taken place?
