'Mistresses' season 4 renewal: Creators reveal how they would have ended series in season 3

ABC still remains silent about possible renewal of "Mistresses." Facebook/ABC

Three weeks have passed since "Mistresses" aired its season 3 finale but there's still no announcement of a season 4 renewal. It also seems that showrunners Rina Mimoun and KJ Steinberg do not know if the show has already met its end because if they did, the duo says "we would have chosen a different way to close it out."

During an interview with TV Line, the two revealed that they considered "softening" the conclusion of the third season but they eventually decided against it because it would feel "unsatisfying." They also said that if they knew there won't be a season 4 to answer the cliffhangers they posed in the season 3 finale, they would have made the said episode, where Wilson had Joss at gunpoint, the penultimate one and allotted a finale where it all gets wrapped up.

Weighing in on the possibility of the renewal for season 4, Mimoun believes that there's still hope, saying, "I don't think we're dead in the water. But I don't know that we're not. We haven't gotten any strong indications of a renewal... but they haven't told us it's over."

Steinberg said that there's still some "poking around and interest," which she hopes would be enough to get the show go on for another round.

"I really believe the decision has not yet been made. We aren't privy to what they have in development or what their needs will be," she said.

Mimoun speculated that the heads over at ABC might drop the verdict around next month, when the network finally figures out whether the show will fit in what is called their "scheduling universe."

Meanwhile, there are reports cited by Yibada that "Mistresses" season 4 is already in place and that the producers, who are reportedly looking forward to a new season, are only keeping it under wraps. There are already speculations that Joss survived. The showrunners also apparently prearranged the arrival of new characters in the new season.
