'Minecraft' finally getting a Wii U edition?

A collection of updates has arrived for the Minecraft Edition on Windows 10. Microsoft/Mojang

If it's up to the European ratings board Pan European Game Information (PEGI), Mojang's popular game "Minecraft" could soon be arriving to Nintendo Wii U.

Gamespot reported that NeoGAF member HypnoDarkrai spotted the listing mentioning that the game will have its Wii U edition, which will be slated to release before this year ends.

Based on the listing, the Wii U version will be rated a "7," only intended for players over seven years old. Furthermore, it described the game to contain "pictures or sounds likely to be scary to young children." Below it, the tentative release date was indicated to be Nov. 12.

The game should have been available by yesterday as assumed earlier when Nintendo held its Nintendo Direct broadcast on the same date as the tentative release date, but CinemaBlend noted that the game has not been released yet.

There are no details as to how "Minecraft" Wii U edition would be different from previous versions, but WIRED noted that the gamepad on the console and its stylus should bring better gaming experience to players when they build and create their worlds.

Given that the listing did indicate a Wii U version of the game, it may still mean that "Minecraft" will be given a new platform, but at a later time. It wasn't released on the 12th as expected and the Nintendo Direct event didn't make the announcement on the subject.

Mojang, Nintendo, and parent company Microsoft have yet to comment about the Wii U edition of the crafting game.

Meanwhile, CinemaBlend reported that the Nintendo Direct revealed that there will be another event intended for "Super Smash Bros." come December. It could be that the upcoming event will finally make the announcement about "Minecraft," but the news outlet noted that it's unlikely.

"Minecraft" has been available in several platforms including PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android, and iOS, but it's the first time that the game was linked to Wii U, EuroGamer reported.

The news outlet mentioned that the main reason why the game hasn't made it to the Nintendo platform is because Wii U's userbase is considered too small.
