Surface Pro 4 vs. Surface Pro 3: Which Microsoft hybrid to choose?

Microsoft Surface Pro 4 is now more than just speculation — it's official, but what does it mean for its predecessor, the Surface Pro 3?

It was already made known that the Pro 4 carries significant changes inside its hood, but it's not that different from the Pro 3 when it comes to external appearance.

However, the latest Microsoft tablet is undoubtedly thinner than its predecessor, with a measured thickness of 8.4 millimeter as opposed to Pro 3's 9.1 millimeter.

Pro 4 also sports a larger display, despite the fact that both devices bear the same length and width measurements. Microsoft made this possible by reducing Pro 4's bezel, giving way to a bigger display size.

As for the screen resolution, the new tablet has a resolution of 2736 x 1824 pixels and this is compared to its predecessor's resolution of 2160 x 1440 pixels.

What's not new in Pro 4 is the kickstand, which allows users to enjoy the device at various positions. The new tablet is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port, mini Display Port, and an SD card slot, just like Pro 3.

For changes inside the hood, the latest tablet from Microsoft now runs on an Intel sixth generation Core M processor, with i5 and i7 options. This powerhouse makes the tablet run 30 percent faster than Pro 3 and as Microsoft claimed, 50 percent faster compared to Apple's MacBook Air.

Pro 4 can also reach up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB of internal storage when configured — but, of course, it also means paying for more to experience the efficiency of these numbers.

Surface Pro 3 already offered decent specs for a reliable tablet, but the attention will surely be directed towards the new and improved version of the tablet, the Surface Pro 4.

The difference now will depend on the pricing. Since Pro 4 is still up for pre-order, and not to mention, has impressive specs, it is expected to carry a hefty price tag. On the other hand, Surface Pro 3's price is likely to decrease eventually.

Surface Pro 4 can be pre-ordered from Microsoft Store and shipment should begin by Nov. 19. The device starts at $899, while Pro 3 is currently listed at $679 for its base price. These prices can go up depending on the specs and storage capacity.
