Microsoft Lumia 950, 950XL and 550 news: Specs revealed; release date rumors

Microsoft Lumia 950XL Microsoft Official

Last Oct. 6, Microsoft introduced three of its newest smartphones — the Lumia 950, 950 XL and another entry-level gadget, the Lumia 550, which are reportedly set to be released in November to December time frame.

Since then, there were no specific release dates for the devices mentioned. However, in Microsoft's September blog, the company announced that it will open two Microsoft flagship stores on Oct. 26 and Nov. 12.

It was then speculated that Lumia 950 and 950 XL and the Lumia 550 will be introduced on those dates, as reported in Phone Arena. As of this point, Microsoft has not confirmed if the recently unveiled devices will indeed be released on Oct. 26.

Meanwhile, specs for Lumia 950, 950XL, and 550 have already been revealed.

First off, based on the official video of Lumia 550 released last week, the phone features a 4.7-inch screen with a 1280 x 720 resolution. It runs on a Snapdragon 210 SoC processor, with a 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage capacity.

At the back of the device is a 5-megapixel camera, while on the front is a 2-megapixel selfie shooter. The device is also powered by a 2,100 mAh battery and comes with a preinstalled Windows 10 Mobile.

According to Phone Arena, Lumia 550 will be offered directly by Microsoft in an unlocked state by December, with a price of $139.

As for Lumia 950, it will have a 1440 x 2560 OLED display in a 5.2-inch screen and will run on a Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor. The device will also have 3 GB RAM and an internal storage capacity of 32 GB.

The rear camera is at 20-megapixels and the front is at 5-megapixels, as Gospel Herald noted. This device has a USB Type-C port for charging as well as a Qi Wireless charging feature.

Meanwhile, Lumia 950 XL carries the same screen specs as the 950 but its screen is bigger, measuring at 5.7 inches. Inside the hood, a Snapdragon 810 is powering the device. It also has the same RAM specs and internal storage capacity as 950.

According to the official Lumia 950 XL page, the device carries a 20-megapixel sensor, assumed to be the rear camera, but nothing has been said about the front shooter. The page also states that what makes the device stand out is its triple LED natural flash feature that helps capture great photos.

The 950 XL is the recent subject of a battery test and based on the video released by Windows developers, the phone can be charged up from 0 percent to 50% in just 36 minutes, Phone Arena reported. In addition, charging the phone from 0 to 100% takes less than two hours — 1 hour and 39 minutes to be precise.
