'Mafia 3' release date: More details revealed prior to game's Oct. 7 launch; mobile game version to roll out soon

"Mafia III" will have a worldwide release on Oct. 7. 2K Games

Several more pieces of background information have been released for "Mafia III." Developer Hangar 13 and publisher 2K Games divulged all the details that a player might need ahead of its Oct. 7 launch date. Additionally, a mobile game version will also be made available.

Players will get to play the game as Lincoln Clay, an orphan and a Vietnam War veteran, who returns home in New Bordeaux, a fictional 1968 version of New Orleans. Here, Lincoln will be drawn into the underground world of the Italian Mafia because of the brutal slaying of his black mob family. After his revenge, he then decides to build his own criminal empire that will take over the city.

Players will then have to drive around town, gun down enemies, and complete several missions to get up on the ladder to success. Players will have the option to go loud or use stealth tactics to finish the job at hand. They also have the option to get some help from a few friends.

The game also features a "cover system" that allows players to duck behind objects to avoid gunfire. Players will also be able to ask questions to NPCs or non-playable characters in order to extract additional information for specific missions. Additionally, players are able to take over locations previously owned by the Italian mob by assigning their own lieutenants.

Meanwhile, the mobile game version will be titled "Mafia III: Rivals" and will be soon available for Android and iOS devices. The game's launch is currently on its pre-registration period, and fans will be notified once the game is ready for download. A bonus crate will be thrown in for the early registrants in the game that can be claimed once it is released.

The mobile game's description reads: "Steal, seize, and slaughter for control of New Bordeaux in Mafia III: Rivals, a brand new battle RPG set in the violent and gritty universe of Mafia III. Be the boss and assemble your crime family. Outfit your characters with brutal weapons, items, vehicles, and stake your claim over local businesses. As your power grows, so does your stake in the criminal underworld. Own the city."

"Mafia 3" is slated to hit the shelves on Oct. 7 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
