Kelsey Grammer and Stephen Moyer are among the actors starring in a TV production of Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard's book Killing Jesus: A History.

The TV miniseries is being produced by the National Geographic Channel and is due to hit small screens in 2015.

True Blood's Moyer is set to play the part of Pontius Pilate, while Frasier star Grammer is signed on as King Herod.

Lebanese actor Haaz Sleiman will play the titular role of Jesus, while the supporting cast includes two British actors, Alexis Rodney as Simon Peter and Abhin Galeya as John the Baptist.

Bill O'Reilly is best known as the presenter of Fox News show, The O'Reilly Factor.  He was raised a Catholic and in the book Killing Jesus charts the events leading up to the murder of Jesus 2,000 years ago.

"We have 'A History' on the cover [of the book].  I just wanted to make the world aware that this man existed," he said in an interview about the book with the Washington Post back in March.

He's excited that his book is now being dramatised and said viewers were "in for something very different and special" with the upcoming four-hour miniseries.

"The film 'Killing Jesus' will break new ground in chronicling the life of the most famous human being who ever lived," he said.
