Kate Mulgrew teases 'darker' times coming for 'Orange Is the New Black' season 4

The upcoming season 4 of "Orange Is the New Black" will be very exciting, actress Kate Mulgrew revealed.

In an event held in Paris, the actress who portrays the role of Red in the Netflix Original series revealed that the soon-to-be released season will be "darker" compared to the previous releases.

Mulgrew revealed that series creator Jenji Kohan will paint a never-before-seen picture of the prison system in season 4.

"There's a lot of laughs, but you must buckle your seatbelts, because she takes some very interesting turns," the actress said during the event as reported by Express UK.

She also warned the viewers that the episodes in the show's upcoming season will get very dark. She believes that fans of the show will be deeply engaged with the plot this season, but things will get riveting as the episodes progress.

Meanwhile, Selenis Leyva also revealed through an interview with The Huffington Post that season 4 will feature a lot of Latina prisoners.

"There's a lot more conflict, there's division amongst the groups more than ever. This is the season of the rise of the Latinas and there's a lot of conflict within that," Leyva said in an interview with The Huffington Post. She also said that a lot of danger should be expected to happen inside the Litchfield Penitentiary.

Other co-stars teased how "Orange Is the New Black" season 4 will pan out when the series comes out on the entertainment streaming service provider. In an interview with Variety, Samira Wiley revealed that her character Poussey and the rest of the characters in the series will undergo a lot of changes. Dascha Polanco also agreed to her statement, saying that the upcoming fourth season "will push the envelope to the next level."

"Orange Is the New Black" season 4 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 17.
