"The Bachelorette" premiered on Monday night with two ladies — Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson — competing for the affections of 25 men, but at the end of the night, after some tears, one of them was chosen to star in the 11th season of the hit ABC show.
With Nilsson being sent home after just one night, Bristowe now has the sole task of choosing the man worthy of her heart in the upcoming episodes of "The Bachelorette." She started by finding out who chose her and who voted for Nilsson.
"I need to figure out if everyone here is for me," she said.
Among those she sent home were: Brady, a songwriter from Nashville who told Bristowe outright that his heart is set on Nilsson; Bradley, an auto shipper from Georgia; David; Josh; and Shawn E.
One contestant who left a particularly memorable but not pleasing first impression was Ryan McDill, who, upon arrival at the mansion, grabbed Bristowe in an inappropriate manner before getting very drunk. At one point he stripped to his underwear and jumped into the pool, and he was confronted by fellow contestant J.J. Lane who asked him why he's taking his shirt off.
"Why am I not raping you right now?" McDill said belligerently.
"The bigger question is why are you here?" Lane shot back.
Eventually, McDill was escorted off the premises, and Harrison told him, "I hate to do this, but you're clearly not here for either these girls…I really think it's best if you go home."
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday, May 19, McDill explained his behavior.
"I wanted to go on [the show] for the experience and everything," he said. "I wasn't interested in Kaitlyn, but was interested in Britt. I felt it was obvious Britt wasn't going to be the one, so I just started being entertaining and got way too drunk, started acting crazy, and it turned to gold."
Harrison told ET that he thought McDill was going to be difficult when he asked him to leave.
"At first I thought he would be adversarial," said the host. "I was like, 'Who knows what's going to happen, this guy might punch me!' But when he came out and saw me on the front porch and he realized what was going to happen he just kind of sunk."
"The Bachelorette" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
