Jurassic World 2 update: Production to begin in Hawaii in February 2017? Multiple locations eyed?

Jurassic World - Indominus Rex Universal Pictures

The Jurassic World sequel is making great progress as it is expected to begin production in Hawaii in February 2017 after the production team scouted several locations for the filming of the follow up movie to the 2015 reboot of the Jurassic Park franchise.

The news came via Jurassic Outpost which also reported that it remains unsure when actual filming will begin as infrastructure will also need to be mobilized for this major film.

As for the film's locations, it was learned that some parts will be shot at the London Pinewood Studios as well. However, there may be multiple locations that the film will be utilizing because Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow teased that the sequel would not be limited to a single location.

"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That'll get old real fast. I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy," he said in an interview with Wired Magazine.

He further sparked the idea of creating a dinosaur becoming open source.

"What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?"

Trevorrow who will work on the story for the sequel along with Derek Connolly, will hand over directing reins to J.A. Bayona, who helmed disaster drama The Impossible and fantasy movie A Monster Calls.

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are also expected to reprise their roles from the first movie.

The Jurassic World sequel meanwhile, will hit theaters June 22, 2018.
