'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers: Showrunner explains why Krysten Ritter is perfect for the role

While the details of the plot of season 2 of Netflix's "Jessica Jones" have been scarce, showrunner Melissa Rosenberg has revealed how she envisioned the lead character of the show.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the showrunner explained that she had very specific ground rules when she was creating Krysten Ritter's character.

"She was never going to play the honey pot. She was never going to put on the tight bandage dress and heels and go and seduce the guy she needs information from," she said during the annual Drama Showrunner Roundtable in late June.

She also explained that she wanted to veer away from the usual portrayal of female cops on TV.

"That was just never going to happen," she said.

The showrunner also explained how they came up with a decision to cast Ritter in the lead role, saying that the character needed to be portrayed by an actress who is believable to be a tough girl.

"Some teeny little thing with arms this thin is just not gonna do it," she said with showing her index finger. "She also has to be a great dramatic actress, but the hardest thing was she also has to be able to deliver a dry line."

Rosenberg also revealed that Ritter had always been at the top of their options to portray the role of the titular character of the neo-noir action series.

"I knew she could at least deliver a dry line, and then I saw her run in 'Breaking Bad' and I'm like, 'Oh, she's a dramatic actress too.' She's phenomenal," the showrunner said.

Meanwhile, the showrunner teased in an interview with Nerdist back in May that the second season of "Jessica Jones" could possibly highlight the secondary characters of the season. This means that the viewers of the show could see more of Trish Walker's (Rachel Taylor) background, as well as Jessica's friend Luke Cage (Mike Colter).

Netflix has yet to announce the official premiere date of "Jessica Jones" season 2.
