'Jessica Jones' season 2 spoilers, release date news: no show until 2018; Jessica and Trish's friendship to develop more

 Netflix

It's going to be a long wait for fans for another season of "Jessica Jones" since Krysten Ritter, the actress behind the titular character, will not be back until other Marvel-based series released by Netflix, such as "Luke Cage" and "The Defenders," are finished.

However, that does not mean that spoilers or rumors will not abound. According to various rumors, this series will not be back this year for sure. After all, Netflix has made it clear that "Luke Cage" and "The Defenders" will come first, so it is projected that "Jessica Jones" will be back sometime in 2018.

Despite the rumors, the showrunner of this series, Melissa Rosenberg talked with Entertainment Weekly about the show's future and what fans should expect come next season. According to her, the second season of "Jessica Jones" will primarily feature friendship, especially that between Jessica and Trish Walker (Rachel Taylor), her best friend.

She even went so far as to say that this relationship is at the core of the show, that it is about female friendship and how it evolves along with the two. Rosenburg added that relationships, regardless of whether it's romantic, familial, professional, or just plain friendship.

Aside from that, Rosenburg also gave some succulent hints about Jessica's new enemies. As fans could remember, in the last season, Jones's arch-nemesis was Kilgrave (David Tennant), whom she killed in the season finale. This brought an end to his mind-controlling scheme and the day was saved once again. However, due to Tennant's impressive performance as this villain, Rosenburg said that the show will not introduce a villain of similar nature to the show. Another reason for this decision is to avoid repetition and ensure that Jessica will have variety in terms of villains.

The second season of "Jessica Jones" does not have a confirmed release date, so fans should stay vigilant and wait for further updates.
