iPad Mini 5 release date, specs rumors 2016: Thinner device to feature reduced battery capacity?

Apple Inc. is expected to launch the iPad Mini 5 in September, together with the rest of the tech firm's new line of products.

The new iPad Mini 5 is reportedly thinner than its predecessor, since it will only be 5 mm thick. But being thin will come with a bit of a downfall because it will have less battery capacity.

The upcoming 7.9-inch tablet, which is also rumored to be called the iPad Pro Mini, will be equipped with the tech firm's A9 processor. This will complement the device's reduced battery capacity, since the A9 processor is known for requiring less power even if used for a longer amount of time.

Other speculated features of the upcoming iPad Mini 5 include 3D Touch (which was first introduced with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus), Apple's stylish new stylus called the Apple Pencil and iOS 10. Rumors also claim that the upcoming iPad Mini 5 will also be Apple's first-ever waterproof device if it will be equipped with the IP68 protection just like the Samsung S7 series.

However, rumors revealed that the camera function of the fifth-generation iPad Mini will still come out with the usual 8MP primary camera with a 1.2MP front-facing snapper for selfies. It may no longer use the typical 3.5 mm headphone jack since it may come out with the company's new D-jack. It may also omit the headphone connector since the said feature is rumored to be removed in the upcoming iPhone line.

Some of the other features of the upcoming iPad Mini 5 include 7000-series aluminum chassis that will also come out in Rose Gold, aside from the usual colors of its predecessors.

The iPad Mini 5 is expected to be revealed at the tech firm's event in September.
