Fans of "Hunter x Hunter" are still waiting for news on when new chapters of the manga will be published and when a new season of the anime will be aired. At the moment, there is still no word on either one, but that has not stopped media outlets from speculating and making predictions on what's going to happen next to mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi's creation.

The latest episode of the anime, episode 148, was aired in Japan in September 2014, and it is still unknown if there will be a continuation. Titled "Past x and x Future," it showed Gon's meeting with his dad Ging atop the World Tree. In that first real reunion between father and son, Ging told of his dreams of going to the "outside" world, to the Dark Continent, which is beyond the boundaries of the world that humans know of.

That particular event took place in Chapter 338 and 339 of the manga, which ends the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc. The next arc is about the hunters going on an expedition to the Dark Continent. It can be expected, therefore, that if there will be a continuation of the anime, it is likely to tackle the events after Gon's meeting with Ging, during the preparations for the expedition.

However, one would question if there is enough material to be adapted into one full anime season. At the moment, the manga is on hiatus, having stopped at Chapter 360 titled "Parasite," as Togashi had reportedly been suffering from health issues. And although the hiatus came as a disappointment to fans, it was also somewhat expected, given that the manga was temporarily halted before on several occasions, including one from 2012 to 2014 and then again from 2014 to 2016.
