HTC U Ocean updates: Upcoming device may feature IP57 water resistance; no 3.5mm headphone jack expected

The recently released HTC U Ultra. There are reports that HTC will soon be releasing another HTC U device code-named "HTC Ocean." HTC

HTC has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, especially since there are speculations saying that it will launch the third variant of the HTC U smartphone, codenamed HTC U Ocean. It is expected to be simply called HTC U once released.

Last month, popular leakster Evan Blass shared in Venture Beat the possible specifications of the upcoming device. Now, new leaks surface indicating other features that HTC U Ocean will have.

Particularly, HTC U Ocean is said to have water and dust resistant features with IP57 rating. This means that the upcoming device may be able to withstand up to one meter underwater for about 30 minutes. Aside from this, HTC U Ocean will still not have the 3.5mm headphone jack, similar to the HTC U Ultra.

Even though this is sad news for some, HTC will compensate this through other new features. The HTC U Ocean is anticipated to have the HTC BoomSound audio that can compensate in the sound department of the smartphone.

As for other specifications, Blass revealed that HTC U Ocean will come in a 5.5-inch wide-quad high definition (WQHD) display screen at 2,560x1,440 pixel resolutions. The upcoming device is going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor.

Users of the HTC U Ocean may have options of either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage that can be expanded through a microSD card. For its camera, the upcoming device may have 16-megapixel IMX351 for its main snapper and 12-megapixel IMX362 for its secondary shooter. HTC U Ocean is also expected to come with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box.

Meanwhile, the biggest feature that the new device may have is the Edge Sense technology where the frame has embedded sensors that will enable the user to do customizable actions such as swiping left and right, squeezing, or changing the volume while watching a video.

HTC U Ocean is speculated to be announced sometime this month and may start shipping globally in May.
