News about HTC joining the Android wearable market have been inconsistent; but according to the latest rumors, the Taiwanese company is finally working on a smartwatch.

Based on a report from Phandroid citing reliable sources, the company is planning to release an Android smartwatch and it carries the codename "Halfbeak." Furthermore, the sources stated that the watch will come with a 360 x 360 screen resolution.

There's not much talk about the Android wear from HTC, but fans just have to wait for more news and possible leaks.

In July last year, popular tech industry tipster Evleaks, released an image of what was believed to be HTC's first ever timepiece powered by Android. However, the company didn't push through with the project, abandoning plans of competing against the big names in the smartwatch industry.

Earlier this year, talks about an HTC smartwatch had surfaced coming from tipster Upleaks. It was reported that the watch would be named HTC Petra and would have a 1.8-inch 320 x 160 POLED screen display.

HTC Petra's specs suggest that the device could bear similar design to that of Samsung Gear Fit, according to Pocket-Lint.

There seemed to be several rumors about the Petra specs. Such included having an ST Micro STM32L151 chipset, USB charging, global service positioning (GPS), and Bluetooth capability. There were also speculations that the device would come in dark color combinations.

Now, the rumor brings back the subject of HTC Android Wear, but the planned smartwatch has a different code name this time. There's a possibility that Petra and Halfbeak are similar devices but that has yet to be proven.

Meanwhile, HTC has just sent out invites to their upcoming event on Sept. 29. The invites state that HTC will release two flagship devices. What the event has to offer got a lot of people really excited.

Many people are hopeful that the event will launch HTC One A9/Aero and Butterfly 3, two most anticipated devices from the company. Could the two flagship devices mean a phone and a smartwatch?
