"How To Train Your Dragon 3" finally has a confirmed release date, but fans will have to wait a little longer to see the adventures of Hiccup and his dragon, Toothless. As indicated in the IMDB listing, the third installment will arrive in theaters on June 29, 2018.

In the previous installment, fans saw Berk lose their chief, Stoick, when he died saving Hiccup's life. This now means that the nation has a new chief.

According to director Dean Deblois, in an interview with Collider early last year, the third installment will feature Hiccup's transition into adulthood, since he's now the chief of his own tribe. Toothless is the leader of his pack as well.

Debois added that the third movie will be about a "dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind."

The movie franchise is set to end where the books by Cressida Cowell began—an adult Hiccup looking back on the times when dragons still existed. This only suggests that dragons and humans may no longer co-exist.

"Why and could they come back and the mystery of what all that is will be saved for the actual story," Debois revealed.

With Deblois' hints, speculations are rife that best friends Hiccup and Toothless will be at war with each other. It was also speculated that the second movie's villain, Drago, who was confirmed to be back in the third installment, will be the reason why it will be impossible for dragons and humans to exist together.

The "How To Train Your Dragon" movie franchise is bound to end in the third film. Despite talks of a fourth installment, Deblois is firm in his decision about sticking to a trilogy. He also hinted the possibility of a spinoff.

"There may be spinoffs to come, but my involvement and my dedication to completing a story that has a reason for being and a strong sense of integrity and three chapters I think is in place and intact," he told Collider in 2014.
