House of Cards Season 4 release date, plot spoilers: Couple to divorce then fight for power?

House of Cards' Kevin Spacy and Robin Wright

As expected, even aligned couples could be blinded by power and end up separating in the process.

Such is the case with Frank (Kevin Spacey) and Claire (Robin Wright) Underwood who are being setup to clash for the U.S. presidency in season 4.

After saying goodbye to Frank during the season 3 finale, both are expected to formally divorce when Season 4 kicks off in the Spring of 2016.

After all that has settled down, a new and much expected twist will take place – Claire will run of the US presidency against her now ex-husband Frank in a not so stunning turn of events since such was anticipated to happen in the previous seasons ever since both got a taste of power.

The question now is how will Frank fare against Claire and vice-versa. Both were superb as a couple and such led to them getting the highest position in government which, as many have seen, eventually tore their relationship apart.

The airing of season 4 practically coincides with the upcoming US elections, proper timing that should draw in possibly new viewers as well.

Despite Claire gone from his side, Frank still has other allies on his wing. That includes Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), his Chief of Staff who has remained loyal to Frank. So loyal that Doug could end up pulling a few strings in favour of Frank though we have to wait and see if such would happen in the fourth season.

For Claire, her new goal is something that will be interesting as well. It is no secret that from previous episodes of previous seasons that she has showed signs of interest in being put into power. But all that was initially set back for the sake of her husband.

But now with the path clear, how badly does Claire want it and up to what extent? Does this political battle douse any hope of any reconciliation between the former first couple?

House of Cards Season 4 debuts in the Spring of 2016 so don't miss it!
