The wait for details about "Homeland" is finally over, after Showtime officially released the trailer for season 6.
The trailer revealed that Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) is already back in the US after spending some time in Berlin. After working as the head of security for the charitable organization called the Düring Foundation in Germany, she will now be seen working for another foundation that provides aid to Muslims who are residing in the US.
However, it seems like the threat of terrorism will always follow Carrie no matter where she works even if she decided to quit her job in the CIA. This time, Carrie will find herself facing her former colleagues. Based on the trailer, she will have a huge disagreement with Dar Andal (F. Murray Abraham) in season 5.
The upcoming season will feature the events that happened between the US presidential election in November until the new president's inauguration in January.
According to the synopsis for season 6 that was revealed by E! News, "It's a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect."
The fifth season of "Homeland" will also see the return of Carrie's mentor, Saul Berenson. The fate of Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend), Carrie's former colleague and current love interest, is expected to be revealed early in the season since he was last seen fighting for his life at the end of season 5.
The new season will introduce several new characters such as the newly-elected US president Elizabeth Marvel, the new White House Chief of Staff who will be portrayed by Hill Harper, US Department of Defense representative General Jamie McClendon (Robert Knepper), as well as FBI Special Agent Ray Conlin (Dominic Fumisa).
The sixth season of "Homeland" will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, Jan. 15.
