The season 5 finale of "Homeland" left fans feeling torn. On the one hand, it was a great conclusion to an action-packed season. But on the other, Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) might have lost another loved one in Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend). Quinn was already in critical condition and the last episode seemed to indicate that he had passed away as a ray of light was shown.

But thankfully, "Homeland" is not yet over. The dramatic thriller has been renewed for a sixth season, so there's hope for Quinn. After all, he came close to death a number of times before and he always turned out okay. But will he make it out alive this time around?

Executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter certainly remained vague about Quinn's fate. When asked by Variety for a possible cure for the agent, Glatter said: "What incredible work has Rupert (Friend) done this season! He's just extraordinary. I feel so lucky as a director to be working with this cast. It certainly has made me more fearless for sure."

It looks like fans will just have to wait until season 6, which reportedly doesn't have a clear storyline as of yet. Showrunner Alex Gansa revealed to The New York Times that they currently don't know what the plot for the upcoming season will be nor do they have an idea of the location. However, she did say that season 6 will be heavily influenced by the concept of terrorism.

"But the threat of terrorism not only in Europe but here in the United States seems to be growing and it seems to have captured people's attention in a significant way, and I imagine that will be reflected in next season's story," Gansa shared. She also said that the show might run for two more seasons, which is definitely music to fans' ears.

As for Carrie, there have been speculations that she will be returning to the CIA, but Glatter says that nothing is set in stone as of now since the creative minds behind "Homeland" have yet to sit down and talk about the upcoming season.

"Homeland" season 6 does not have an official premiere date set but fans who can't get enough of the Showtime series will be happy to know that it is rumored to be in 2016.
