'Heroes Reborn' season 2 renewed or cancelled? low ratings suggest cancellation

"Heroes" was well received during its release back in 2006, but was not able to maintain its presence on TV and got cancelled. Will its spin-off "Heroes Reborn" avoid the same fate?

"Heroes Reborn" is approaching its season finale with only three episodes left, and so far, NBC has not announced if the show will be picked up for another season.

Back in August at a press tour, show creator Tim Kring responded to questions about renewing the show once it finishes off with its 13 episodes in season 1.

"I've always felt that the brand was elastic enough and a broad enough premise," he said, according to Variety. He went on to explain that the show tells the stories of regular people who possess extraordinary abilities. There are just a lot of these people who can "save the world."

He also expressed his optimism about a renewal. "I feel confident that we can find more story to tell with some returning characters and new ones," he added.

Will Kring's positivity keep the show going or will the ratings dictate its fate? It seems that the numbers for the show are not good enough that a cancellation is more likely than a renewal.

Bustle reported that the premiere for the spin-off garnered 6.09 million viewers, which is far better than the original "Heroes'" premiere.

However, since the release of eight episodes, the ratings have seen a downward trend, from the 6.09 down to 3.78 million.

The news outlet also gathered that "Heroes Reborn" is described as an event series in its official website. It means that the word "event" is given to increase the hype on the show and if the network decides to cancel, it won't be a big deal.

On the other hand, if "Heroes Reborn" is doing so well, NBC would definitely take advantage of the high ratings, which would translate to success and a renewal.

But looking at the ratings, the show is just on the mediocre level, which leads to speculation that the TV series might not get a renewal.

Whether or not NBC decides to cancel the show, there are still several questions that "Heroes Reborn" needs to answer. Fans should get them once the show returns on Jan. 7, 2016 at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
