Meredith Grey seemed to be determined to bring her best pal out of prison in the next episode of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13.

In an interview with Us Weekly, actress Ellen Pompeo teased what her character is willing to do just to help her best friend, Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), deal with the repercussions of his actions against Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) during the finale of season 12. She needs to be careful not to aggravate the situation, which she almost did in the premiere episode of season 13 when she almost threatened DeLuca for Alex's sake.

"Meredith has to pull it back," Pompeo told the publication during the product launch event of Philosophy. "She took that step toward possibly threatening, and then got her hand slapped by Dr. Bailey, and she doesn't want to make anything worse for Alex, so she's had to rein it in. She owns the hospital — she doesn't need a lawsuit," the actress added.

Pompeo also revealed that there seemed to be no future for Mer's relationship with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), at least in the first five episodes of the current season.

When season 13 began, Mer decided to end things with Riggs because she knows that her sister Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) has a strong attraction for the same guy. Yet it does not mean that the tension between them will also be over.

"We're still doing the triangle, and Meredith is still keeping the secret from Maggie," the actress stated.

Meanwhile, Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) will return to Seattle from New York in episode 3 titled "I Ain't No Miracle Worker." But instead of receiving a warm welcome, Arizona will find herself in the middle of the conflict between Alex and Andrew. Will she choose sides just like Mer?

The third episode of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 is scheduled to air on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
