GoPro HERO5 specs, Camera drone latest news: Quadcopter being developed

2015 hasn't been a great year for GoPro as its stock dropped by 70 percent. The GoPro HERO4 also had disappointing sales because of its relatively high price, according to The Motley Fool. Now, the company is developing new powerful features and products to get the company back on track. This includes developing its very own drone.

GoPro released a sneak peek of its Quadcopter drone recently and the footage was promising. But if the company does enter the drone market, it will face heavy competition against DJI Innovations. The largest drone maker in the world is expected to reach revenue of $1 billion.

GoPro has also closed a deal with NHL in efforts to improve marketing position. If GoPro can cut into DJI's revenue by 20 percent, it could offset slowing camera sales.

Struggling sales could also be attributed to companies with cameras that can easily connect to the Internet. According to photo sharing website Flickr, most of their users upload photos using Canon and Nikon cameras. Apple's iPhone and iPad was the third most preferred camera to upload photos. GoPro, on the other hand, did not make Flickr's survey of most preferred camera by their users.

But the next GoPro camera is rumored to be launched early next year and is expected to feature 8K Full Ultra HD video recording. It is also speculated that the tech company will double the resolution of its camera's photos.

GoPro is also reportedly looking into 3D technology and the HERO5 is rumored to extend battery life by 1.5x with a 2800 mAh battery. Its diving range is expected to increase from 40 meters to 60 meters. Additional rumors of the HERO5 include a body that's 50 percent smaller than its predecessor. It is also expected to be 40 percent lighter. GoPro is planning to add a headgear with each consumer purchase.

The only caveat for consumers? It may cost $400 to $500, as reported by Bidness Etc.

The HERO5 was expected to be released last October, but GoPro instead launched the smaller HERO4 session.
