GoPro Hero 5 release date rumors: Adventure cam to be unveiled in October with 8K resolution at 60 fps?

GoPro Hero 4, the most recent iteration of the GoPro cameras GoPro

Fans do know that the GoPro Hero 5 is on its way, but knowing the exact release date is a different matter. It is now speculated that the next-generation action camera will be arriving in October and possibly ready to shoot 8K videos with a 60 fps frame rate.

Game N Guide reported that company CEO Nick Woodman confirmed the existence of the GoPro Hero 5. He also mentioned that its next action cam will contain hardware improvements that will make it more smartphone- and cloud storage-friendly.

Woodman didn't mention any specifics, but fans are speculating that the upcoming GoPro model will contain a faster processor, either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or an A10 chip. It is also rumored that the camera sensor will also receive improvements, which will make it capable of shooting 8K videos at 60 frames per second. If this will become a reality, the GoPro Hero 5 will be the first one to have this feature. Its predecessor, the Hero 4, can take 4K videos with a maximum of 30 fps.

Furthermore, fans have been clamoring for a bigger battery capacity, and the upcoming model is rumored to contain a 2,800 mAh battery, a great improvement from the 1,160 mAh battery in the current one. It is also believed that the upcoming GoPro action cam will be dual-lens and have better Bluetooth technology. It is also said to have the ability to focus underwater and be drone-ready while still maintaining its small size.

GoPro cameras used to dominate the adventure cam market, but the playing field has change. There are other action cams in the market like the LG LTE Action Camera, the Xiaomi Yi II 4K, the TomTom Bandit action cam, and several more.

It is expected that the GoPro Hero 5 will cost around US$450 to US$550 when it is released.
