Google Fit has just received an update that enhanced its fitness tracking features, making it a serious contender among the many fitness trackers available for Android-based devices.

According to the official blog post from Google Fit's software engineer Michael Gaiman on Nov. 19, Google Fit now includes features to track different exercises, nutrition, and food intake and even how the individual takes his or her breaks.

The most notable feature that comes fresh in the app update is the ability to track walks, cycling sessions, and runs. The user will get the detailed information on his pace, speed, and elevation for the aforementioned activities.

The blog post also mentioned that Google Fit can now take strength training to the next level. Paired with an Android Wear smartwatch, the app can already detect push-ups and count it as the user continues with training.

The accelerometer found within the smartwatch will be responsible for detecting the movements in push-ups, squats, or sit-ups. The information will then be recorded in the app.

When Google Fit was launched back in May, the app lacks the ability to sync data with other Android Wear devices, but that limitation has been scrapped.

The update can now integrate third-party applications with Google Fit so that users can take advantage of nutrition apps such as FatSecret, Lifesum, and MyFitnessPal to monitor their diet program.

Google Fit can now also work with sleep trackers such as Sleep as Android and Basis Peak and devices like Xiaomi Mi Band, Xiaomi Mi Band 1S and Sony Smartband 2.

The update for Google Fit has all the improved functionality that fitness enthusiasts would love to have in their tracking app. It should be available in Google Play Store in the coming days.

Gaiman concluded in the blog post that the app, now complete with different fitness tracking features, should allow people to "start making better choices" when it comes to their health.
