Honduras will play Panama on Friday night as the second round of group games start in the Gold Cup 2015 tournament. Both teams will know how important today's game is for them, with the winner likely to progress to the knock out stage, where as for the loser it could signal an early exit. After the first round of games in Group A, the United States are living up to their billing as favorites to win this group. The USA defeated Honduras, where as Panama could only manage a draw with Haiti. That means whoever wins today's game between Honduras and Panama is likely to finish second and make it through to the next round.
Even though Honduras lost their opener, Panama's draw with Haiti could be considered the worse result. Haiti are considered the minnows of this group, and each team will expect themselves to take maximum points from their game against them. Where as the USA are the favorites to win Group A, so losing against them may be expected for each team - anything more than that could be considered a bonus at this stage.
That means even if Honduras and Panama play out a draw today, then Honduras will feel more confident, as they will believe they can gain all three points from their final game against Haiti next week, where as Panama will have to try and take down the United States to get their three points to keep them above Honduras.
However, people should not completely write off Haiti. If they showed anything from their opening encounter against Panama, it is that they can compete and they will try and make things as difficult as possible against the USA today, and will believe they themselves have a chance in their final group game against Honduras regardless of what happens today. So this so-called "Group of Death" really could turn out to be extremely tight for that second spot.
