Producers Billy McFarland and Ja Rule are facing multiple lawsuits after their event, Fyre Festival, took a wrong turn.
Fyre Festival was a music festival to take place on an island in the Bahamas. People who were attending the music festival were promised luxurious accommodations and celebrity chef-prepared meals. As people arrived at the destination, it was nothing like that. Festivalgoers were met with a disaster as they were forced to stay in unstable tents and consume boxed lunches. To make matters worse, festivalgoers were not able to leave the island right away because of airline demands.
One of the first lawsuits filed against the producers of Fyre Festival, as reported by Rolling Stone, said: "This outrageous failure to prepare, coupled with Defendants' deliberate falsehoods in promoting the island 'experience,' demonstrates that the Fyre Festival was nothing more than a get-rich-quick scam from the very beginning."
Another lawsuit was filed by one of the festivalgoers, Daniel Jung. Through his lawyer, Mark Geragos, he claimed that the situation was a lot like "The Hunger Games," wherein they did not have enough basic necessities and were stuck on a remote island.
Not only are the producers being sued, but also celebrity influencers who advertised the music festival. Each of these celebrities, one of them being the infamous Kendall Jenner, have millions of followers on social media that they reached out to by posting an advertisement for people to attend Fyre Festival. There are 100 names included on the list of celebrity influencers that are charged in the lawsuit, but their names have not yet been revealed.
It is clear that festivalgoers will not let those involved in the Fyre Festival get away without paying for the consequences. Festivalgoers paid an outrageous amount of money to attend the supposed-to-be luxurious event, so it's understandable for them to want their money back plus more for damages.
