'Frozen 2' plot theories: What will be Elsa and Anna's next journey?

Disney's "Frozen" was a great hit when it was released in 2013, but somehow the hype for the blockbuster animated film hasn't died down.

News of a sequel to the movie is no surprise but it is also a subject of various online speculations. One thing about "Frozen 2" that has been confirmed is that directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are back together to take on the director's seat.

In an interview with MTV News back in August, Buck explained that the first movie gave fans a happy ending and with that, the directors were wondering what's next for the Arendelle gang.

MTV News reported that the next step will still feature the two royal sisters, Anna and Elsa, because after all, Buck and Lee believe that "Frozen" won't be "Frozen" without those two characters. Whatever challenges lie ahead of Elsa and Anna, they will still be together.

Aside from that, Buck also confirmed that Anna and Elsa are "two very strong female leads" and they will continue their story, while taking into consideration some issues that a lot of people can relate to these days.

Ever since word about a "Frozen" sequel came out, several plot theories have circulated online. They went as creative as possible, while some even went as dark as speculating an evil Elsa.

One speculation was that a "Frozen" and "Tarzan" crossover may happen in the sequel, revealing that Tarzan is the Arendelle sisters' long lost brother.

Another speculation is that "Frozen 2" will deal more on Elsa's backstory — how she came to be cursed (or gifted) with her icy powers, while Anna was born a normal person. There is also a theory suggesting the sequel will show Anna discovering she has her own superpowers.

Then again, all of them are just speculations and nothing about the film's plot has been confirmed yet. As for the release date, the production has not commented on the matter, but "Frozen 2" is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
