'Five Nights at Freddy's' movie release date: movie expected in 2018 but when exactly isn't clear

Indie game developer Scott Cawthon has already made a name for himself in the horror game genre with his "Five Nights at Freddy's" game series, which has gained devoted followers.

Since the announcement of a movie spinoff was made some time ago, fans have constantly been on the lookout for updates on it. However, they have been scarce lately, and many are thinking that the movie project has been scrapped. It hasn't, it may even be released by 2018.

Fans are expected to wait for a while for the movie to come out as its IMDB page mentions that it is expected to be released in June 2018, but everybody knows that this is just a placeholder for the database. No official announcement has been made concerning its release date, but it still something to hold on to.

"Five Nights at Freddy's" fans are also trying every channel possible to get information about their beloved franchise. Last April, fans asked director Gil Kenan ("Poltergeist," "City of Ember," and "Monster House") on Twitter about the said movie, if it has been cancelled or not.

Kennan replied, "No, not cancelled, just in the very long script development phase... Still working on it!" Kennan is in charge of the script as well.

Last May, fans also directly asked Cawthon about the game on the "Five Nights at Freddy's 4" Steam discussion page, where he replied, "The script is still being worked on. The people involved are taking the movie seriously, which is definitely a good thing!"

Additionally, it is also speculated that the movie will take place in an amusement park, and not the famous pizzeria anymore, the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

Currently, no new teasers or other details have been released, but fans are expecting something soon. For the meantime, the game "Five Nights at Freddy's Sister Location" is set to be released earlier than the movie, which is this fall.
