New details about the "Final Fantasy 7" remake remains scarce since the upcoming action role-playing game was noticeably absent during this week's Tokyo Game Show 2016. But speculations continue to come out about the game's release date.

A Reddit thread posted by user central_void revealed back in August that the reason for the rumored delay in "Final Fantasy 7" remake's release date was because of Square Enix plans to make the game a PlayStation 4 Pro exclusive title.

The post claimed that the game developers had to "overhaul" the entire game to make it fit the parameters set by Sony in order to make it run smoothly in the new version of the game console. It was also mentioned in the thread that the changes may delay the 2016 target release, and it might be pushed back to 2017.

The rumors about the development of the remake of the hit 1997 PlayStation game first came out 2014, but it was officially announced by Square Enix during the PlayStation conference at the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game was said to have a multi-part release because the game developers wanted to have the original content intact. They also plan to add a new content to the game.

Game Informer asked "Final Fantasy 7" producer Yoshinori Kitase back in April about the number of installments of the remake. However, he opted not to reveal any information about it.

"We do have an idea on the project side in terms of how many installments it may consist of, but unfortunately, we can't share that at the moment," the game producer said. "Of course, as we're creating and developing the scenario and the stories, these are things that move in real time. So, the plan may change along the way. But, that said, we do have a vision for how many installments it will consist of."

Square Enix is expected to drop more details about the game in the coming days.
