'Final Fantasy 7 Remake' release date: First episode expected some time next year

 Square Enix

Although "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" was announced about a year ago, it will still take some time before fans see the whole game. Revealed to be a multi-part title, the first episode of the game is expected to be released in 2017.

However, although fans already expect the first installment to be released next year, publisher Square Enix has yet to provide more details on the game. The title was absent from this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

This is said to change soon, as the publisher is rumored to be putting up a special presentation for "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" soon. According to Attack of the Fanboy, a recent interview with Tetsuya Nomura has the creative director saying that if he has his way, a massive details dump for the game is much preferable, with "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" getting its own ATR-like event.

An Active Time Report has been a staple press event for previous "Final Fantasy" titles. The most recent ATR revealed major details prior to the release of a new installment in the franchise, "Final Fantasy XV."

The Bitbag surmises that instead of an Active Time Report, Square Enix may choose to provide details on "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" as side notes to other game-related launches. The industry follower believes that since the two franchises are related, a "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" announcement can be expected at the "Kingdom Hearts First Breath" concerts in August. In addition, there is also a series-related "Dissidia Final Fantasy Tournament" happening on August 28.

"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" is a remastered version of the classic franchise installment. However, instead of one massive story, the entire game will be a multi-part series. Much like another recent Square Enix production, "Hitman," the upcoming "Final Fantasy" title will also be released in several episodes, and the publisher confirmed that each part will play almost as long as a regular RPG but will still be a part of the "Final Fantasy 7" storyline.
