Although developer Bethesda has not pegged a specific release date for the mods feature to go live for the PS4 version of "Fallout 4," the studio is reportedly targeting a late 2016 release for the feature.

According to Pete Hines, although Bethesda has yet to release specific details on when can fans expect the mods feature to go live on the PlayStation 4, the option will be updated before the roll out of "Skyrim Special Edition."

Hines said, "No. Skyrim SE won't be delayed. I expect any holdups to be resolved long before then." This may mean that Bethesda has different teams working on the two franchise titles, and that the new "The Elder Scrolls" game will not hinder any progress for releasing the mods feature on the PS4. Bethesda noted though, that "We will update everyone when we can."

Allegedly, the delay is not on the files themselves, but rather how the PS4 is set up, so Bethesda is currently having a hard time adapting the mods feature to the Sony console. For the PC and the Xbox One, the studio has had no concerns when porting the mods feature for "Fallout 4," since Microsoft has allotted third-party content for up to 2 GB. However, the opposite is true for the PlayStation 4, since the console only allows up to 900 MB of ported data. Since most "Fallout 4" mods need a considerable amount of memory for data, the limit is a concern for seamlessly porting the new feature in the PS4.

Meanwhile, although the mods feature is already live for the Xbox One and PC versions, it seems that Bethesda is also having issues. Reportedly, the new feature is still not up for Europe versions of the game. In addition, there are reported framerate and gameplay issues with the current update rolling out.
