The musical TV series "Empire" will have several special guests when it returns for its third season. The latest addition is Mariah Carey, who will be joining several artists in the hip hop scene. These include Sierra McClain, Taye Diggs and a few more.

Variety reported that Carrey will be guesting in the third season of the series and will play a superstar named Kitty. Kitty will then do a collaboration with Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett) on a new song to be released under Empire Entertainment. The episode will air on Oct. 5.

The announcement was made during the Television Critics Association press tour held at the Beverly Hilton in California last Monday. Carrey has been rumored to take part in the series. She was not able to commit earlier because of her hectic schedule, the report added.

Sierra McClain is another music artist who will be in a recurring role in the next season of "Empire." McClain will play the role of a young talent with a killer voice named Nessa. Lucious (Terrence Howard) is very interested to bring her aboard the company's collection of talents, according to The Hollywood Reported.

It was also previously announced that Taye Diggs will be joining the show and will play Angelo Dubois, who is a Harvard graduate-turned-city councilman. He came from a wealthy family but chose politics over the private sector. Diggs's character is compared to U.S. President Barack Obama.

Rappers French Montana and Birdman will also be joining the upcoming season of "Empire." Montana is said to be a member of Lucious's powerful inner circle, while Birdman will be playing as himself.

Fans of the series are speculating that Romeo Miller, of "Growing up Hip Hop" and "Jarhead 3: The Siege," will also be included on the show. However, no confirmation has been made so far.

"Empire" season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. EDT on FOX.
