'Destiny: Rise of Iron' DLC release date rolls out to gamers in September

Join Lord Saladin in the "Destiny: Rise of Iron" DLC Bungie

Developer Bungie's "Destiny" will soon receive another expansion pack,"Rise of Iron." The upcoming DLC is scheduled to arrive on Sept. 20 for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 only.

The company officially announced the "Rise of Iron" DLC last June 8 during a Twitch event where players were invited to join Lord Saladin in an epic campaign to avenge his legendary heroes. Those who respond early to the call will receive a special edition of the exotic rocket launcher called the Iron Gjallarhorn. Every "Destiny" warrior can earn the gold and white weapon, but not everybody can have it in black.

"Destiny" is bringing back the iconic weapon that can be gained through a quest on the upcoming DLC.  However, players who pre-ordered the expansion pack will have it with a different skin, in a black and silver color combination, GameRant reported.

Additionally, the company also made it clear the next DLC will not be available for older consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Bungie explained, "Our goal is always to bring every player from this awesome community along for the ride as we continue the story of 'Destiny.' At the same time, we will also continue to support players who elect not to upgrade their console hardware."

They added, "This fall, you'll still be able to play 'Destiny' on legacy generation consoles, but that journey will occur on a separate path. Up to this point, player progression between current and legacy consoles in the same family has been shared by each account. This summer, that experience will fork into two parallel experiences that will no longer share progression."

Update 2.3.0 for the game has also been deployed, and it includes updates for class balance and weapon tuning. It also brings in several tweaks on the game activities, such as missions, Prison Elders, and Crucible. Several fixes also come along for game items and the game interface.

Fans can expect more details about the console separation in the coming weeks.

"Destiny" is currently available for the current-gen and older video game consoles.
