'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date: 'Ashes of Ariandel' coming next month with new location, weapons, armors, bosses

Dark Souls 3 - Ashes of Ariandel DLC Bandai Namco

"Dark Souls 3," the action role playing game developed by FromSoftware and published worldwide by Bandai Namco, will be having its first expansion this October. Titled "Ashes of Ariandel," the downloadable content is expected to introduce a new plot plus new abilities, weapons, and magic to use, and new bosses to defeat.

"Players will find themselves steeped in a brand new environment filled with terrifying new enemies, challenges, and exciting lore to expand the overarching Dark Souls 3 storyline," said Bandai Namco, as quoted by GameSpot.

According to the report, the DLC is set in a new location where players have to "uncover a terrible secret." The said region is said to be "the frozen land of Ariandel" where a secret is hidden and must be uncovered. Of course, gamers will have to face off against evil and find out what caused the area's devastation.

Last week, the "Ashes of Ariandel" trailer was released. It shows the frozen region, which GameSpot notes is like the Painted World of Artemis. There is also an antagonist akin to the Crow Demon and a character named Yorksha, who looks like Priscilla, the ruler of the Painted World.

The official description of the trailer reads: "Ashen Ones... Enter this new world covered by snow and defeat the evil that has defiled this land. Grab ahold of the new armor sets, weapons, and magic that are available in Dark Souls III: Ashes of Ariandel to aid you in discovering the new location. For the veterans of Dark Souls PVP, explore the new features and test your meddle with your fellow players."

Another DLC expansion is set to be released in the future, but FromSoftware reportedly has no intention of creating another sequel or spin-offs for the game.

"Dark Souls III" received mostly positive reviews from critics, and it also topped the list of best-selling games when it was released, according to Venture Beat.

The "Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel" will be released on Oct. 25 for Windows PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
