Conor McGregor fight news 2016: UFC champion still open to facing Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Now that Conor McGregor has made Ultimate Fighting Championship history after winning against Eddie Alvarez last weekend and claiming the league's lightweight belt, rumors of him eventually facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. have sparked interest anew.

This is not exactly fresh news. In fact, these speculations have been around for quite some time now. However, plans for this alleged fight were momentarily put on hold in April when McGregor got into a highly publicized beef with UFC president Dana White. This led to McGregor being pulled out from his supposed rematch with Nate Alvarez for UFC 200. The match eventually pushed through a few months later in the recently held UFC 202.

"Tell Floyd and Showtime, I'm coming," McGregor confidently told the crowd at a New York City nightclub where he went to celebrate his most recent accomplishment. "Tell him to go to them Showtime offices. I want $100 million cash to fight you under boxing rules cause he's afraid of a real fight."

Mystic Mac is not exactly one who minces words, something that his fans find endearing while his haters see it as abominable. Then again, at this point, it is quite obvious that McGregor does not really care about what people think of him as he appears to be on board with whoever wants to offer him a fight.

"Floyd's not ready for this," McGregor added. "Much respect to Floyd, he's a solid businessman. What he has been able to do, he's a f------ animal at what he's been able to do but as far as real fighting, as far as true, pure unarmed combat — Floyd don't want none of this."

Mayweather admitted that he was the one behind the rumor when it first started. The poised matchup sounded so interesting that it slowly picked up supporters until even White gave it some merit. Regardless of the interleague talks that are bound to happen should the McGregor vs. Mayweather Jr. match come to fruition, it will arguably bring in loads of money for both parties. And as businessmen, it will be a difficult task to pass up the opportunity to earn loads of cash.

While both McGregor and Mayweather are both on board with the prospect of fighting each other, it is important to note that there will still be a lot of technicalities that need to be resolved before they both step into the ring. As of now, however, fans will just have to wait for the official statement once the mega match is greenlighted.
