The "Code Black" season 2 ensemble just got bigger with actor Rob Lowe joining the show in a recurring role as the hospital's newest doctor.

In "Code Black" season 2, Lowe will play the role of a doctor by the name of Colonel Ethan Willis, who worked in the U.S. military's combat casualty care research program.

Dr. Willis was working on a combat hospital in Afghanistan before he was moved to Angels Memorial Hospital. Lowe's character will be introduced in the Code Black" season 2 premiere.

The Angels Memorial Hospital newcomer will not warm up to his new co-workers except for Leanne Rorish (Marcia Gay Harden).

"Code Black" is the first broadcast series that Lowe will star in after "The Grinder," which was cancelled by FOX after just one season.

Because of this, the actor had reservations in involving himself in television series. However, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said that he will be back even if "The Grinder" does not.

Meanwhile, Lowe won't be the only one joining the cast of "Code Black" season 2. There are three more newcomers joining the fold.

Nafessa Williams will play the role of Charlotte Piel, a former child star who follows her dream to come a doctor but is not taken seriously.

Another "Code Black" season 2 newbie is Emily Tyra, who will portray the character of Noa Kean, a determined doctor who detests people who do not take their work seriously.

Lastly, there's Noah Gray-Cabey, who will play the role of Elliot Han, a smart and sweet doctor, who, while experienced, is still overwhelmed by the comings and goings in the emergency room.

"Code Black" season 2 had to let go of two of its main characters from the first season, Raza Jaffrey and Bonnie Somerville and promoted Boris Kodjoe and Jillian Murray to full-on series regulars.

"Code Black" season 2 premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28 on CBS.
