NBC has announced that the hit 90s sitcom "Coach" is set to return for a 13-episode series.
Craig T. Nelson, long retired from coaching, makes a return to TV screens as he tries to guide his fully grown grandson who has been instilled as the new head coach of a new team that will participate in an Ivy League over in Pennsylvania.
"Coach" is a 90s sitcom which starred Craig T. Nelson that ran for nine seasons on ABC (1989 to 1997). While it has been confirmed that Nelson would be returning, there is no official word on who the other cast members would be. The same holds true on whether any of the original cast of "Coach" would be included.
Nelson will reprise his role as Hayden Fox while original creator Barry Kemp will write and executive produce the series which is not a reboot but a sequel wherein Fox's retirement is cut short as he tries to help guide his grandson manage the team.
This development means that Nelson will still be under the NBC umbrella. Nelson is part of another series, "Parenthood," which is set to come to a close soon.
"Coach" aired its season finale on May 14, 1997 saw coach Fox moving back to his cabin in Minnesota to raise his son while his better half Christine become a working wife for a local station.
It should be interesting to note how the sequel would continue and on whether it would pick off from that last scene. And while no announcement was made the storyline behind Fox's wife could also be interesting to watch out for.
The revival of "Coach" is the second 90s TV series to be revived after NBC announced a six-episode continuation of "The X-Files." David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as FBI agents who investigate alien-related conspiracies and bizarre, paranormal crimes.
