The sophomore season of "Chicago Med" will paint a bigger picture of the life of psychiatry department chief Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) after the series introduces several members of his family.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, "90210" alum Mekia Cox had been tapped to portray the role of Dr. Charles's eldest daughter Robin.

The report revealed that Robin is an epidemiologist who will be asked to join the medical staff of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center to diagnose a difficult case. But her father may not be pleased to work with her.

"She is actually going to start working at the hospital as an epidemiologist, and there's some strains in that relationship, which will reveal a lot about his past and who he is." executive producer Andrew Schneider said.

Another executive producer Diane Frolov also teased about the head psychiatrist's journey in season 2.

"We'll get a bigger insight into his past few years, with his own personal demons that he's hinted about," Frolov said. "We'll meet his youngest daughter, who is eight years old, and we'll meet his elder daughter, who's 25, from his first marriage."

Robin is also expected to start a romantic relationship with Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) in the upcoming episodes of the season, according to a report from TVLine.

Meanwhile, NBC finally revealed the official synopsis for the premiere episode of "Chicago Med" season 2. It involves the adjustments being made by Dr. Rhodes because of his new boss, April's (Yaya DaCosta) health condition, and an unexpected appearance of a person from Dr. Natalie Manning's (Torrey DeVitto) past.

The official synopsis reads:

"Dr. Rhodes begins his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery, but gets off on the wrong foot with his challenging new boss, Dr. Latham (guest star Ato Essandoh). Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) navigates life as the new chief resident and finds the road a bit rocky, while Dr. Charles approaches Sarah (Rachel DiPillo) with an interesting opportunity that catches her off-guard. Elsewhere, April works to come to terms with her recently discovered illness and Dr. Manning deals with a complicated case involving a pregnant woman who was a victim in a high speed collision. Meanwhile, Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) takes exception to the actions of fourth-year medical student Jeff Clarke (guest star Jeff Hephner), whose past history with Dr. Manning may be a factor."

NBC will release the premiere episode of "Chicago Med" season 2 on Sept. 22.
