During the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Chevrolet announced that its 2016 Volt will have an extended electric range compared to its predecessor. Just last week, the car company stayed true to its claims and showed proof with an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sticker.
Reports stated that the 2016 Volt is capable of running 53 miles on pure electricity after a single charge on its 18.4-kWh battery, and this power was based on tests conducted by EPA. That result is 15 miles more than the first-generation.
The Volt is a hybrid car with two motors running on electricity and an engine that runs on gas. The two-motor design works in harmony, which makes it more effective in generating power.
According to CNET, 2016 Volt's fuel efficiency during the first 53 miles is one of its notable improvements.
Running on electric power, the upcoming model will consume 106 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) and that's an improvement from the current 98 MPGe. Running on gas, the car delivers a 42 MPG.
Chevrolet 2016 Volt will also be remarkably faster, with a recorded 19 percent improvement when it comes to 0 to 30 mph run. It will get to that speed in only 2.6 seconds and getting from 0 to 60 mph will only take 8.4 seconds.
According to General Motors' Executive Chief Engineer for Electrified Vehicles Pam Fletcher, 2016 Volt is being made to be better in all aspects.
It will also come cheaper too, according to Wired. The new generation Volt will sell at a starting price of $33,995, which is $1,000 cheaper than the current model.
The next generation Volt will be made to carry major improvements — with notable changes in the exteriors, a "less alienating cabin," and for the most part, significant improvements on its efficiency and overall performance.
The 2016 Volt is expected to arrive in dealerships this year in fall.
