The midseason finale of "Bones" season 11 left numerous fans in tears. A big explosion killed several police officers and injured two of the main characters--Aubrey (John Boyd) and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne).

At first, it seemed like everything was going to be okay. Aubrey needed to undergo surgery, but that turned out fine. And Hodgins looked as if nothing terrible really happened to him. But towards the end of the episode, tears were shed as viewers discovered that Hodgins, as a result of the explosive trauma, became paralyzed.

Fans' minds are likely riddled with questions. Will Hodgins ever recover? What's going to happen next?

Luckily, executive producer John Collier is here to save the day. Collier spoke to TVLine about Hodgins' fate, among other things.

The decision to paralyze Hodgins was apparently a way to push his and Angela's (Michaela Conlin) storyline. Collier explained that the incident will really put their relationship to the test and see how far they can go. And although he says that "there's a good chance he will never walk again," the possibility of him gaining back the ability is "in the cards."

As for the rest of the cast, the back half of season 11 will also have plenty in store for them. Romance is in Aubrey's future, but things will not go as smoothly as one would like. Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) will also have an interesting--and thrilling--storyline.

"Something from outside is going to happen and it's going to put them, as a couple, under duress. Last year, we did Booth's gambling [problem] reawakening and threatening their relationship — that was something that was happening between them. Now it's an external force that's going to threaten them," said Collier.

And no, it will reportedly not be in the form of their daughter, Christine (Sunnie Pelant).

"Bones" has not been renewed for a 12th season, but Collier and his team remain hopeful. If season 11 does turn out to be their last, however, the writers have got it all planned out.

No premiere date has been set for the second half of "Bones" season 11, but it will likely be some time in March or April 2016.
