Blood moon in September 2015 linked to biblical prophecies?

A supermoon or blood moon is set to occur towards the end of September. For many sky watchers, this is yet another cosmic event worth watching and taking photos of, while astronomers consider it as part of the Earth's cycle.

However, for some Christians, the arrival of the blood moon is said to fulfill the prophecies of the end of the world.

A blood moon, in science, is just another term given to total lunar eclipse, but what makes the coming blood moon on Sept. 27 significant is that it is the second occurrence of such this year and is the fourth one to form over the past 12 months.

These occurrences have been taken by Christian ministers as signals of biblical prophecies. In a CNN report, it was stated that minister John Hagee considers it as a tetrad, four total lunar eclipses forming consecutively six months apart, which signifies that something big would happen to the world this September.

Furthermore, Hagee believes the four blood moons or tetrad is a sign coming from God.

The rise of blood moons have been linked to biblical translation, citing references taken from books in the Bible. For instance, it was stated in Revelations 6:12 that a "great earthquake" would happen as the "moon turned blood red."

It was also mentioned in the Book of Acts 2:20 that the moon will turn to blood before the second coming of the Lord.

Hagee was not the only one to cite biblical prophecies in relation to the rise of the blood moon this month.

It was also foretold by Rev. Efrain Rodriguez, who sent a letter to National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), stating that an asteroid will hit near Puerto Rico and will bring forth a massive earthquake.

But science debunked this, stating that if such a big celestial body would hit Earth, experts at NASA would have spotted it by now.

Meanwhile, EarthSky.org, a popular website for astronomy, stated that there have already been 62 tetrads at the beginning of the first century and their occurrences are part of a natural cycle that does not signify the end of times.
