Jimmy McGill's (Bob Odenkirk) career as a lawyer could be over when "Better Call Saul" returns for season 3.
In the second season finale of the critically acclaimed "Breaking Bad" spin-off, Jimmy made a mistake of admitting his crime to his older brother Chuck (Michael McKean) when he thought that the older McGill would quit the law profession because of his wrongdoing. But Jimmy did not know that Chuck discreetly recorded his confession.
But will Chuck use his confession against his brother in season 3?
Series creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould talked about how screwed Jimmy will be when the series returns next season in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. They also talked about the validity of Chuck's evidence against his brother.
According to Gilligan, Chuck's actions are technically not illegal, especially since the state of New Mexico allows taping one's conversation without the other's knowledge. This means that the older McGill can use it without violating the law. Because of that, Jimmy's criminal acts could cost him a lot.
However, Gilligan said that they are still unsure about Jimmy's fate at this point.
"We're not sure ourselves. We're plugging away at season 3 and there's a case to be made that he's indeed pretty effed," the series co-creator said. But Gould added that there is also a possibility that Jimmy could still get off the hook.
The series creators also teased that the recent events in the relationship of the McGill brothers could start the end of Jimmy and the beginning of "Breaking Bad's" Saul Goodman.
"These brothers have suffered such a rift already — what's the next step? At what point does Jimmy's love, respect, and caring for his brother become permanently broken?" Gould stated.
Meanwhile, fans of the series are speculating that Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) will return in "Better Call Saul" season 3, based on the clue exposed on Reddit.
But in an interview with Rich Eisen, the series creators gave a vague response regarding the possible return of the character in the series.
"It was never the intention for Gus to be in that episode. And to take it a step further, people should not assume in any way, shape, or form that they'll see Gus in the first episode of next season. It's possible they will. It's also possible, if not more possible, they won't," they said.
"Better Call Saul" season 3 is slated to premiere on AMC later this year.
