'Battlefield 5' release date: EA DICE to announce game on May 6

"Battlefield 5" will be launched on May 6. EA DICE

EA DICE has announced a special world premiere event where it will lift the veil off the long-awaited "Battlefield 5." The game studio invites fans to "see the future" of the franchise on May 6.

The announcement was made after a report about the said "Battlefield" affair by a German publication made rounds online.

A special countdown website was also launched by EA DICE to help fans mark off the days leading to the "Battlefield 5" reveal, which fans can catch at exactly 4 p.m. ET (9 p.m. BST).

According to a press release sent to Gamespot, fans can expect creative director Lars Gustavsson and lead producer Aleksander Grondal to lead the charge into the future of "Battlefield."

"Get insight into the minds of the developers as you hear from on the past, present and the future of Battlefield," the press release further read.

"Battlefield 5" rumors have been circulating the web ever since EA DICE said that the game will be its focus after "Star Wars Battlefront." There are leaks that suggest the game will be in a World War setting.

It was also expected that fans will see the shooter in the flesh during the EA Play event scheduled before the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. It turns out fans will get the treat earlier than they expected to. For those interested to see "Battlefield 5" formally unfold, simply follow the Twitch website for the game here.

As for what games can be expected from the "Battlefield 5," EA DICE positions it as in a "fun [and] new" but also "military-style," which the beloved franchise is notorious for.

"Battlefield 5" was slated to be released during the fiscal year 2017, which runs from April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
