'Battlefield 5' release date news: game lands from DICE this week

 DICE

DICE is preparing a big event on Friday, May 6, to reveal the fifth installment in the "Battlefield" video game franchise.

The game developer unveiled a teaser on the game's official website to invite everyone to get the "first look at the future of Battlefield." It also displayed a countdown timer that indicates the exact time when the event will go live.

A press release about the event was sent to GameSpot, which reads:

"Get insight into the minds of the developers as you hear from the creative director Lars Gustavsson and lead producer Aleksander Grondal on the past, present and the future of Battlefield."

A report from WCCFTech last year speculated that "Battlefield 5" will return to the "humble military style" that the early versions of the game were known for. This theme was changed when "Battlefield Hardline" was released back in 2015.

Early reports about the game claimed that "Battlefield 5" will deviate from the modern settings of the latest installments to get back to the scenarios from World War I.

It appears that EA CEO Andrew Wilson stuck to his promise that the next "Battlefield" game will drop during the period that it will. This will reportedly give "Battlefield" fans enough time to enjoy playing the upcoming game's predecessor "Battlefield 4," which was released in 2013, and "Battlefield Hardline," which came out in 2015.

"We want to give Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline players more time to enjoy these games and immerse themselves in a game, the live service, and the community," Wilson announced during the 2014 EA investors conference.

The "Battlefield" franchise started in 2002 with the release of "Battlefield 1942" on PC.

Fans all over the world can access the unveiling of "Battlefield 5" on the game's Twitch site.
