'Battlefield 1' news update: EA announces new content, CTE patch arrives

Give the massive success of "Battlefield 1," it is only right for EA to produce even more content for the title. YouTube/Battlefield

A couple of weeks ago, there were rumors about new content coming to "Battlefield 1" soon. Apparently, this is no longer a baseless speculation, as publisher Electronic Arts seems to have hinted its forthcoming existence. In fact, the content's possible release date may have been revealed.

It is worth noting that the company just had their fourth quarter earning calls for this year. During this meeting, the main highlight was the great number of players that "Battlefield 1" has. It only shows what a massive success the title is; thus, the studio plans to take advantage of this by releasing more premium content.

According to VG247, EA CEO Andrew Wilson and chief financial officer Blake Jorgensen unveiled the company's plans for the game. One is the fact that continual updates are to be expected within the year. Add to this the already confirmed three expansion packs, all of which will add new regions, armies and battlegrounds, among others.

"Battlefield 1" players are also expected to "see a lot of content delivered to the broad community." The two executives revealed that these updates will not only be made accessible to DLC owners. If this is the case, the entire community is really in for a huge treat.

Reports suggest that EA's plan could refer to contents that are not totally tied to the announced expansions for "Battlefield 1." While the content of these expansions remains a mystery, one cannot deny the fact that they are pretty much interesting to look forward to. Some even believe that among these are the free maps, something that the fandom has been clamoring for since day one.

In related news, PVPLive reports that the Community Test Environment (CTE) patch for "Battlefield 1" has just arrived. It includes a good number of gameplay fixes, with upgrades designed specifically for the game's hitboxes. The patch also adjusts the newest feature introduced to the game — the trade system.
