'Avatar 2' news: Dark Horse to release comics based on movie

 20th Century Fox

Not much about "Avatar 2" is known but thankfully, director James Cameron has come out to talk about the film for the first time in months. Sadly, it doesn't have anything to do with plot details but it does involve something that will help fans get by as they wait for the film.

During the New York Comic Con panel of Dark Horse Comics, which is known for creating stories inspired by big franchises like "Terminator," "Aliens" and "The Abyss," Cameron graced the event through video to announce the fruits of his partnership with the company.

"I'm excited that starting now, even before the release of the first sequel, Dark Horse Comics will be bringing you new adventures from Pandora covering the time before, during, and after the events of the original Avatar film," the filmmaker said.

"Now they're working directly with me and our team at Lightstorm [Entertainment] in an unprecedented 10-year partnership that's going to create new stories that will take you deeper into the world of Avatar," he then promised.

It is expected that these comics will give fans a hint or two about what to expect from "Avatar 2," which Cameron is currently busy with. In fact, he is working on the other two follow-ups as he puts together the film as well.

Meanwhile, IB Times has unearthed a report about the return of Stephen Lang as Col. Miles Quaritch in the sequel and in the following "Avatar" films. As expected, the filmmaker remained secretive as to what the character will be up to in the movie.

But the most popular guess is that he will be the one to bring the adversaries in the dwellers of Pandora, considering the nature of the character. Cameron also promised that fans will see Quaritch evolve in the upcoming films.

"Avatar 2" is slated for a December 2017 release.
